LENNOX EQUIPMENT PLANNING

How to choose Uniview security cameras for your property

Start with what you need to see, where the camera will be mounted, and the detail you need from recorded video. A model number or megapixel count alone cannot answer those questions. Use this checklist to narrow the catalog before asking Lennox to review your equipment list.

Define the view before choosing resolution

Write down the task for each camera: seeing activity across a yard, recognizing a person at an entrance, or reading detail at a specific point. Measure the distance to that point and the width of the scene. A wide view spreads the available pixels across more ground. Moving the camera closer or choosing a different lens can matter more than increasing resolution. Do not assume that a camera covering a driveway can also read every moving license plate.

Turret, dome, bullet or PTZ?

A turret offers an adjustable fixed view without a clear dome cover. A dome can suit an installation where its enclosure and mounting arrangement are useful, but dirt, reflections and placement still matter. A bullet provides a directional fixed view and needs a mounting position that supports its shape. PTZ cameras can move and zoom; they do not continuously record every direction at once. A fixed camera can retain coverage while a PTZ is pointed elsewhere. Fisheye and panoramic models serve wider scenes, with their own viewing and recording requirements.

Check the scene after dark

Describe the available light, moving subjects and whether added visible light is acceptable. Infrared can produce a useful night view, but placement near glass, reflective surfaces or obstructions can cause problems. Low-light color performance depends on the scene and settings. For Owlview, Wise-ISP, dual-light or deterrence models, check the exact product specifications rather than assuming that every camera in a family includes the same light, microphone or speaker.

Plan the lens and mount together

A fixed lens gives a defined view; a varifocal model can offer adjustment within its stated range. Confirm the actual lens option on the SKU. Check the wall or ceiling position, cable entry, junction box and weather exposure. Similar-looking brackets are not automatically interchangeable. Send the camera and bracket model numbers together when asking for compatibility help.

Complete the recorder and network plan

Check recorder support for the exact cameras, channel count, incoming bandwidth, recording resolution and required smart functions. Count PoE devices and compare their maximum power requirements with the switch or recorder budget. Retention depends on bitrate, recording schedule, camera count and usable disk capacity. Decide how long recordings need to remain available before choosing drives.

Send an equipment list that can be checked

Include a photo or sketch of each camera location, approximate viewing distance, night lighting, existing recorder model, desired retention, network equipment and installation ZIP code. Lennox can help review the equipment selection. Uniview products include free standard U.S. shipping; installation and applicable tax are separate.
